Both of these are popular anti-aging supplements, and your body can turn either one into the same essential molecule (NAD+). This guide compares the actual human evidence for each, since they aren't interchangeable despite being marketed the same way.

Why nobody can honestly declare a winner
Comparing results across separate trials is not the same as comparing compounds. The NMN and NR studies enrolled different populations — postmenopausal women with prediabetes in one case, middle-aged and older men in another — used different doses over different durations, and measured different endpoints.
That matters because the apparent divergence on insulin sensitivity may reflect who was studied rather than what was given. A compound tested in people with impaired glucose control has more room to demonstrate improvement than one tested in metabolically healthy volunteers.
